The “Race for Water Odyssey” has started at 3 pm yesterday, Sunday March 15th 2015!
The MOD70 Race for Water ship and her enthusiastic and motivated crew left Bordeaux yesterday, to begin this great adventure. Discover some of the intense moments that the teams shared with the public during this first stop.
A thrilling week in Bordeaux
After a little less than 24 hours of navigation from Lorient, the “Race for Water Odyssey” (R4WO) has cut to the chase by dropping anchor in Bordeaux, the expedition’s departure city, on Wednesday March 11th.
Beautiful encounters for the R4WO teams !
During the whole week, the Race for Water Odyssey’s team welcomed a little less than 300 children here in Bordeaux under the « Race for Water » tent, not only to have fun but also to learn more about water and how to preserve it. The luckiest of them could meet the crew at the signing session and visit the boat.
It was also a privileged moment when Marco Simeoni, President of the Foundation, met the Mayor of the town, Alain Juppé. The latter took the chance to reiterate his support for the project.
A departure with all the trimmings
It was a thrilling moment when the R4WO left Bordeaux to start its round the world expedition! Relatives, shore teams and Bordeaux residents were here to support the R4WO crew.
It is therefore full of this enthusiasm that the crew set sails onboard the MOD70 Race for Water.
Next stop: the Azores, Bermuda and NYC
You can follow the adventure on www.raceforwater.org and on social networks.
Initiated by the “Race for Water” Foundation, the R4WO aims to draw up the first global assessment of plastic pollution in oceans. In less than 300 days, over 40,000 nautical miles will be traveled, punctuated by 11 scientific stopovers and 9 outreach stopovers, involving a total of 13 countries.
